Bo Hayes Edges Taylor Jones to Win Alabama State Match Play

Brewton, AL – Semifinal and Final match play results of the 16th Alabama State Match Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Country Club of Brewton in Brewton, AL on Saturday, August 6, 2016 (6949 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.3/130).

Bo Hayes of Southside, defeated Taylor Jones of Birmingham, 2 up in the Final match to win the 16th Alabama State Match Play Championship. Jones was 2 up after 3 holes, but Hayes, a rising senior at Jacksonville State won 3 of the next 4 holes to go 1 up. After a hard fought back nine, Hayes birdied the last to win his first Alabama Golf Association title.

“It feels great. It was a long week, especially with all the rain delays and waiting around,” Hayes said. “It was a lot of golf in a few days, but it feels so good to get it done.”

Hayes defeated Matt Johnson 2 and 1 in the semifinals earlier in the day, while Jones beat Steven Groover 1 up in his morning match.

Alabama State Match Play Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 8.4.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
