2016 Alabama State Match Play Champion - Bo Hayes

Brewton, AL – Semifinal and Final match play results of the 16^th Alabama State Match Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Country Club of Brewton in Brewton, AL on Saturday, August 6, 2016 (6949 yards, par 36-36—72, 73.3/130).

Bo Hayes of Southside, defeated Taylor Jones of Birmingham, 2 up in the Final match to win the 16^th Alabama State Match Play Championship. Jones was 2 up after 3 holes, but Hayes, a rising senior at Jacksonville State won 3 of the next 4 holes to go 1 up. After a hard fought back nine, Hayes birdied the last to win his first Alabama Golf Association title.

“It feels great. It was a long week, especially with all the rain delays and waiting around,” Hayes said. “It was a lot of golf in a few days, but it feels so good to get it done.”

Hayes defeated Matt Johnson 2 and 1 in the semifinals earlier in the day, while Jones beat Steven Groover 1 up in his morning match.

Alabama State Match Play Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 8.4.
