Top Alabama Women Golfers Compete in SE Challenge Match

BIRMINGHAM, AL- The third playing of the Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match will take place at The Lakewood Club (Dogwood) in Point Clear, AL August 11th and 12th.  The Alabama team will consist of 8 regular and 4 senior amateurs invited to compete against teams from Florida and Georgia.

Format

Southeastern Challenge format consists of four-ball, foursome alternate shot, and three-ball matches. Each match is worth 1 point with a ½ point awarded for halved matches.

Event History

Past Winners: Florida has dominated the event winning the previous two matches. The Country Club of Ocala, FL hosted the first Challenge Match in 2012 where Florida defeated Georgia and Alabama with total scores of  24, 20 ½, and 18 ½, respectively. 2014 match was held at Reynolds Plantation-Great Waters, GA with Florida earning 29 total points over Georgia’s 20½ and Alabama’s 13½.

Regular Team

  • Arin Eddy (22, Hartselle) is a senior for the University of Montevallo Women’s Golf Team.  Currently the #12 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama.  Finished 6th at the 2016 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play, and was a Semi-Finalist of the 2015 Alabama Women’s State Amateur.

 

  • Cammie Gray (23, Northport) is a senior for the University of Alabama Women’s Golf Team.  Currently the #5 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama. Finished 2nd at the 2016 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play, and was the Champion in 2012 and 2013.

 

  • Jesse Lawley (22, Rainbow City) is a former University of Alabama at Birmingham Women’s Golfer, and is currently the Assistant Coach for Berry College Women’s Golf Team.  Currently the #T6 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama.  A Semi-Finalist of the 2016 Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship.

 

  • Michaela Morard (15, Huntsville) is a rising high school freshman at Randolph School. Currently the #2 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama. She is the 2016 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Champion, runner-up at the 2016 Alabama Girls State Junior despite a final round 63, 2015 Alabama Women’s Four-Ball champion with Micheala Williams. Morard has verbally committed to playing for the University of Alabama in 2020.

 

  • Gabi Oubre (22, Mobile) is a senior for the Troy University Women’s Golf Team.  Currently the #T32 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama.  Finished T3 at 2015 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play and was 2009 and 2012 Alabama Girls’ State Junior Champion.

 

  • Ally Williams (15, Athens) is a sophomore at Athens High School. Finished fourth at 2016 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play and seventh at Alabama State Junior Girls. Currently the #10 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama. Younger sister of Micheala Williams.

 

  • Michaela Williams (18, Athens)  will be a freshman at the University of Tennessee this fall. Older sister of Ally Williams. She is the 2016 Alabama State Junior Girls Champion, third at the 2016 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship and 2015 Alabama Women’s Four-Ball Champion along with Michaela Morard. Currently the #4 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama.

 

  • Elaine Wood (21, Spanish Fort) is a senior for the University of Montevallo Women’s Golf Team.  Currently the #1 ranked women’s amateur in Alabama, she is the 2014 and 2016 Alabama Women’s State Amateur Champion, and  2015 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Champion.

  • Nancy Gavin (64, Jacksons Gap) is currently the #T7 ranked women’s senior amateur in Alabama.

 

  • Lucie King (64, Tuscaloosa) is currently the #5 ranked women’s senior amateur in Alabama.

 

  • Nancy Schlich (60, Auburn) is currently the #6 ranked women’s senior amateur in Alabama

 

  • Susan West (52, Tuscaloosa)  is the 2015 and 2016 Alabama Women’s State Senior Champion.  Currently the #1 ranked women’s senior amateur in Alabama.
