Semifinals Set at the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball Championship

HOOVER, AL (May 4, 2024) – Round of 16 and Quarterfinal results of the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball Championship held at Hoover Country Club in Hoover, AL on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

Eight-seeded Blake Kelley + Michael Garretson won two matches today. In the round of 16 they defeated nine-seeded Will Swift of Vestavia Hills + Woodie Eubanks of Oneonta 4&2. The duo defeated the number one seed and 2021 Champions, Daniel Burns of Owens Cross Roads + Alex Balog of Elmore in 19 holes in the Quarterfinals. 

The 2023 Champion team of Blake Watts of Fort Payne + Will McCurdy of Auburn collected two victories  today with a 2&3 win over the team of Elliot Jones of Tuscaloosa + Phillip Weaver of Tuscaloosa in the Round of 16 and a 2&3 win over the team of Daniel Keddie of Birmingham + Richard Douglas of Birmingham. 

The team of Barak Erwin of Huntsville + Tyler Watts of Huntsville claimed a 2&1 victory over James Medley of Homewood + Trent Alexander of Florence in the Round of 16. They went on to defeat the team of Brinson Holder of Point Clear + Matt Gourgeot of Decatur during the Quarterfinals in a 1 up victory. 

During the Round of 16, Clint Provost of Vestavia Hills + Wesley Pate of Vestavia Hills defeated David Cooke of Vestavia Hills + Scott McGee of Vestavia Hills 1 up. The duo went on to defeat Tobin Ayers of Auburn + Wil Clowdus of Auburn 3&2  in the Quarterfinals.

The following matches are set for Semifinals:
  • Kelley + Garretson vs. Watts + McCurdy
  • Erwin + Watts vs. Provost + Pate
Semifinal matches begin tomorrow, May 5, 2023 at 7:30 a.m at Hoover Country Club with the Championship match slated for approximately 12:30 p.m.

This Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.

In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors.
