Alabama State Junior Golf Rankings System Announced

Boys Rankings | Girls Rankings

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Alabama Golf Association (AGA) has announced a new ranking system for Alabama junior golfers.  The rankings will serve as the official point system for junior golf in the State of Alabama aiding the AGA with Junior Players of the Year and Southern Junior Cup team member selections.

“With the AGA already overseeing rankings for men, women, senior men and senior women in Alabama, adding a system for junior boys and junior girls naturally falls within our mission,” stated Jeremy Gardner, Manager of Junior Golf and Tournament Programs. “We reached out to various junior golf organizations in the state for their feedback prior to releasing the rankings and received invaluable information from them. We realize there is no perfect rankings system so over time there will be tweaks to the program. We certainly invite any feedback from the golf community to assist us with the effort.”

Points will be awarded based on the number of participants in the event combined with the overall strength of the field.  Every tournament must also meet additional requirements to be a sanctioned rankings event.  Rankings will include various tournament organization events held throughout the state, a select group of regional events in surrounding states, national, and international competitions.

Rankings are updated on the first Monday of each month and utilizes a rolling schedule including the previous 12-month results in selected tournaments. Player of the Year races will run on an academic calendar from September 1 – August 31. The number one ranked junior boy and girl as of September 1 annually will be the players of the year. Winners will be honored along with the other Alabama State Players of the Year at an awards banquet in early 2018.

Alabama’s Southern Junior Cup team is comprised of six males and six females that will compete against their counterparts from Arkansas, Mississippi, and Missouri in a Ryder Cup style format.  Mississippi will host the 2017 matches at The Country Club of Oxford on August 2-3.

Rankings are viewable in a couple of different formats for each gender: 1. All Juniors; 2. By Graduation Year. To view the current rankings and system details, click the appropriate link below:
