102nd Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship Tees Off on Thursday

Pine Tree Country Club's Par 4 17th Hole

HOOVER, AL – The Alabama Golf Association’s 102nd Alabama State Amateur Championship will be held at Pine Tree Country Club in Birmingham from June 7-10. The par 72 course will welcome 156 of the state’s best male amateurs this coming Thursday.

Pine Tree Country Club opened in 1968 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Considered one of Birmingham’s best kept golfing secrets, the country club prides itself on its family atmosphere. Known for its many doglegs and immaculate bentgrass greens, Pine Tree has previously hosted a high number of competitive tournaments including U.S. Open Qualifying Tournaments, the Alabama Open, the U.S. Senior Challenge, and many more.

The Alabama State Amateur Championship is competed over four rounds of stroke play, 18 holes daily. Following the first two rounds, the top 60 scores and ties will advance for the final 36 holes, after which a Champion will be crowned. The event is open to spectators.

Last year’s event saw Birmingham native, Taylor Eyster, edge out Auburn’s Turk Pettit, the 2016 champion, in a three-hole playoff after tying at 14-under-par after 72 holes. Eyster will be defending his title at Pine Tree Country Club this year.

Starting times and live scoring during the event can be found on the AGA website at: https://www.ghintpp.com/bamagolf/TPPOnlineScoring/Default.aspx?id=400
