55th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship Tees off on Monday

HOOVER, AL – The 55th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship will be held at Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery from June 25-27. The par 70 course will welcome 43 players on Monday.

Established in 1903, Montgomery Country Club features a traditional straight and narrow golf course with tree-lined fairways and water in play on three holes.

The Alabama Girls State Junior Championship is competed over three rounds of stroke play, 18 holes daily. The player with the lowest 54-hole score following the completion of the third round will win the title of Alabama Girls State Junior Champion. Players will also be competing for prizes in three age categories: 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18. Players may employ a caddie as long as the caddie is eighteen years old or younger.

Last year’s event was won by Huntsville’s Michaela Morard at Valley Hill Country Club in Huntsville. Morard won with scores of 68, 70, 67, for an eleven-under total of 205. She is coming off a record-breaking performance at last week’s Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship at Canebrake Club where she posted a 54-hole score of 195 (-21).

Tee times will begin at 7:30am each day from the first tee. The public is welcome to attend.

 

Championship History & Records

This year marks the 55th playing of the Alabama Girls State Junior Amateur Championship and the first time that Montgomery Country Club has played host to the event. The Championship was first played in 1963 with Judy Jehle winning the inaugural event.

Round 1: Tee times at 7:30am off #1 tee

Tuesday, June 26

Round 2: Tee times at 7:30am off #1 tee

Hosted player lunch in the Clubhouse after play

Clubhouse Field re-grouped according to score.

Wednesday, June 27

Round 3: Tee times at 7:30am off #1 tee

Hosted player lunch in the Clubhouse after play

Awards ceremony immediately following play at scoreboard.

 

Prizes

Awards will be presented to the low 2 scorers in the 12-13 Age Division, and the low 3 scorers in both the 14-15 & 16-18 Age Divisions, as well as to the overall Champion. In addition, the Champion will have her name engraved on the Bee McWane Trophy housed at the AGA office.

The Whit Lee Award named in honor of Mary Whitfield Lee, is presented to the competitor representing outstanding sportsmanship and character as voted on by the championship contestants.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
