Results from the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifier

Wil Clowdus fired a four-under par 66 to take medalist honors.

Final results from U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifying hosted by Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Ala. Monday, August 20, 2018 (6418 yards, par 35-35—70, Course/Slope Rating: 70.5/122).

Heavy rain and thunderstorms forced a suspension of play at 11:05a.m. Play did not resume until 2:45p.m. with the rest of the round played in heavy showers. Four qualifying spots and two alternate positions were available at this qualifying site. 

Wil Clowdus of Auburn, Ala. fired a four-under par 66 to take medalist honors at Montgomery Country Club. The other qualifying spots went to Stephen Behr of Florence, S.C. with a three-under par 67, and Cates Culpepper of Columbus, Ga. also with a three-under par 67. The final spot was played off between Clark Brown of Navarre, Fl. and Blair Hamm of Helena, Ala. who tied on two-under par 68. Clark Brown won the two-hole playoff securing a spot in the championship while Blair Hamm takes the first alternate spot.

Tied on one-under par 69, Crenshaw Pritchett of Montgomery, Ala. and Elliott Jones of Tuscaloosa Ala. competed in a playoff for the second alternate spot. Ellliott Jones won the four-hole play off and will be second alternate for the championship.

The 38th U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will take place at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C. on September 22-27, 2018.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 13 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
