Results from the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifier

Joan Gossett Oates fired a 72 to take medalist honors

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Final results from U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship Sectional Qualifying hosted by Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Ala. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 (5794 yards, par 35-35—70, Course/Slope Rating: 73.4/131).

Play was postponed to Tuesday August 21st due to heavy rain and thunderstorms on the scheduled date, Monday August 20th. There were three championship spots and two alternate spots available at this site.

Joan Gossett Oates of Germantown, Tenn. carded a two-over par 72 to take medalist honors at Montgomery Country Club. The other two qualifying spots were filled by Eleanor Tucker of Savannah Ga. with a five-over par 75, and Lea Venable of Greenville S.C. with a six-over par 76. All three players will play in the 32nd U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Norwood Hills Country Club in St. Louis, Mo. from September 22-27.

Laura Beth Yates of Lake View, Ala. posted an eight-over par 78 to take the first alternate spot. Cammie Gray-Bentley of Northport Ala. and Nancy Schlich of Auburn, Ala. tied for fifth place at 10-over par forcing a playoff for the second alternate spot. Gray-Bentley won on the second playoff hole and will be a second alternate for the championship.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
