Hudson and Cooper tied with Nelson and Grant for Senior Four-Ball Lead

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (October 13, 2018) - Second round results of the 24th Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship hosted by Wynlakes Golf & Country Club in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, October 13, 2018 (Championship Division: 6564 yards, par 36-36—72, 71.1/124; 65+ Division: 5928 yards, par 36-36—72, 68.9/123).

Round one leaders Robert Nelson of Fairhope and Walker Grant of Montgomery carded a second round 67 to finish at 131 (-13) but now find themselves tied for the lead with Steve Hudson and Claud Cooper of Birmingham who posted a seven-under 65.

Only two shots back at 133 are Joey Holley of Troy and Stan Sherlin of Montgomery.

In the Super Senior Division, Tommy Williams of Dothan and Lamar Hart of Dothan grabbed the lead firing a nine-under 63 to give them a four-stroke lead over David Fry of Montgomery and Wayne Gardner of Mobile.

Round 2 Notes:

  • 18 teams are under par through 36 holes with field average score of 71.72
  • 63 (-9) was the low round of the day carded by Tommy Williams and Lamar Hart in the Super Senior Division
  • 103 birdies and 1 eagle posted in round two
  • Easiest hole: Hole #17, 136-yard Par 3 with 2.69 average score
  • Hardest Hole: Hole #18, 430-yard Par 4 with 4.24 average score

Championship format is 54 holes of four-ball stroke play with no cut. Awards will be presented to the Champions in both the Championship (Ages 50-64) and Super Senior (Ages 65+) divisions. Merchandise prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each division. Championship Division winners will have their name engraved on the Bob Phillips Trophy.

Alabama State Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 50th birthday by the first day of the championship, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
