West completes Women’s State Senior 4-Peat and Brown claims Inaugural Women’s State Super-Senior Championship

FOLEY, AL (April 18, 2019) - Final round results of the 46th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship and 1st Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship hosted by GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, AL on Thursday, April 18, 2019 (Championship Division: 5508 yards, par 36-36—72, 72.1/121; Tournament Division: 4792 yards, par 36-36—72, 68.1/112; Super Senior Championship: 4255 yards, par 36-36—72, 64.4/110).

Susan West of Tuscaloosa posted a final round of 79 to capture the 46th playing of the Alabama Women’s State Senior for the fourth consecutive time. West held off Chris Spivey of Birmingham to win by seven-strokes.

Melanie Smith of Hoover posted a final round 80 to win the Tournament Division over Debbie Atchley of Pelham by seven-strokes.

In the Super-Senior Championship, Barbara Brown of Tuscaloosa shot a final round of 84 to run down round one leader Lynn Glover of Birmingham. Brown was good enough to hold off a hard charging Linda Houston of Gulf Shores to claim a one-shot victory of the inaugural Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship.

Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 65th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,000 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 19 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
