Semifinals Set at 37th Alabama State Four-Ball Championship

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Round of 16 and Quarterfinal match play results of the 37th Alabama State Four-Ball Championship hosted by Huntsville Country Club in Huntsville, AL on Saturday, May 4, 2019 (6722 yards, par 36-35 – 71, 72.3/129)

After a two hour and fifteen minute weather delay, Round of 16 matches were reduced to 9-holes.  Fourteen seeded, Brinson Holder of Fairhope and Matt Gourgeot of Decatur won two matches on Saturday with a 2 and 1 win over three seeded Richard Moody of Vestavia Hills and Stewart Whitt of Athens in the morning Round of 16. They followed it with a 6 and 5 victory over Huntsville Country Club members, Ryan Campbell of Huntsville and Dustin Schaefer of Meridianville in the afternoon Quarterfinals.

Defending champions Will Swift of Vestavia Hills and Clay Guerin of Hoover collected two decisive victories with a 3 and 2 win over Sam Jeffcoat and Ben Fuller in the morning matches and a 5 and 4 victory against Daniel Burns of Owens Cross Roads and Jordy Hayden of Faurhope in the quarterfinal. Swift and Guerin will face off against Elliott Jones and Andrew Kniphfer both of Tuscaloosa in the first Semifinal match after the pair earned a 2 and 1 victory in the morning and followed it up with a 3 and 2 victory in the afternoon. 

In other action, two seeded Jason Tate of Owens Cross Roads and Brendan Keller of Huntsville squeezed out a 1up victory in the Round of 16 and outlasted Braxton Howle of Irvington and Braxton Gillespie of Chelsea in a marathon 22-hole match. The duo will square off tomorrow in the second Semifinal match against Holder and Gourgeot. 

Semifinal matches begin at 7:30am at Huntsville Country Club with the championship match slated for approximately 12:30pm.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
