Cherokee Ridge Country Club to Host 87th Alabama Women's State Amateur Championship

HOOVER, AL (July 8, 2019) – The best women amateurs in the state will travel to Cherokee Ridge Country Club in Union Grove for the 87th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship from July 10-12. This is the first time that the Cherokee Ridge Country Club has hosted the Women’s State Amateur Championship.

Alongside the 87th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship, AGA will host the Inaugural Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship. A field of four players, ages 65 and up, will compete for the State Senior Match Play title.

29 players are registered to compete in this year’s championship division, while three are set to compete in the tournament division. Cammie Bentley of Northport won the title in 2018 at The Country Club of Birmingham for her second state amateur title. Bentley will not be defending her championship title this year.

Format: 18 holes of individual stroke play to determine seeding within each division. Championship Division will be cut to low 16 players from the stroke play qualifier that will compete for the overall championship. Remaining Championship Division players will be divided into flights of four (4). Tournament Division players will be divided into flights of four (4) to compete at match play based on qualifying round score. All players are guaranteed a minimum of two matches due to consolation brackets for each flight. Senior Division will be seeded according to the 18-hole stroke play qualifier.

Eligibility: Entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.
