Match Play Gets Underway at 87th Women's State Amateur Championship

UNION GROVE, AL – Match play results of the 87th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship and 1st Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Cherokee Ridge Country Club in Union Grove, AL on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

The 87th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship continued today with the match play stages in the midst of an afternoon weather delay. 16 players went head-to-head this morning in the championship division with eight players surviving to the quarter-finals in the afternoon.

A.M. Results

In the morning round of 16, first seed Michaela Morard of Huntsville defeated Theresa Malik of Madison 6 and 5.

Sophie Burks won 6 and 5 over Elisabeth Preus of Auburn.

Number two seed Anna Claire Little of Auburn also won her first match, defeating Chloe Borders of Jacksonville 5 and 4.

Number three seed Ally Williams of Athens claimed the largest win of the day by defeating Emily Lankford of Huntsville 7 and 5.

The morning results saw extra holes in two matches. Linda Jeffery of Prattville defeated Maria Donado of Homewood in 20 holes, and Susan West of Tuscaloosa won her match in 19 holes over Layne Dyar of Anniston.

In the inaugural Alabama Women’s State Senior Match Play Championship, Nancy Schlich of Auburn won 1 up against Barbara Brown of Northport and Amanda Miller of Albertville won 5 and 3 over Theresa Stratton of Opelika.

In the afternoon quarterfinals, Morard won 2 and 1 against Burks, Howard 1 up over West, Little 2 and 1 against Jeffery and Williams 4 and 3 over Dyar.

Tomorrow’s semi-finals will see Michaela Morard play Allison Howard and Anna Claire Little play Ally Williams. Tee times will begin at 7:30am.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
