CALERA, AL (June 24, 2020) – First round results of the 30th Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship, 47th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship and the 2nd Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Timberline Golf Club in Calera, AL on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Playing in rainy conditions, Ashley-Sinclair Curtis of Enterprise, AL leads round one of the 30th Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship. Sinclair carded a two-under 69 giving her a one-stroke lead over Mychael Oberry of Hoover and Sophie Burks of Tallassee.

Kyung-Hwa Theodoss of Hampton Cove and Laura Beth Yates of Lake View share the lead in the Tournament Division.

The overall Women’s Stroke Play Champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score in the Championship Division. Tournament Division will be flighted after 36 holes by score if necessary.

Susan West of Tuscaloosa shot a one-over 72 to lead the 47th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship.

Debbie Atchley of Pelham posted a 75 to take a four-stroke lead over Barbee Bryant of Hoover in the Tournament Division.

The Senior Overall Champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score from the Championship Division. Tournament Division will be flighted after 36 holes by score if necessary.

Leading the State Super-Senior Championship, Barbara Brown’s opening round of 80 gives her a two-stroke lead over Jane McGriff of Birmingham.

The Super-Senior Champion is the player who posts the lowest 36-hole score within the Super-Senior Championship.

Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 65th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 115 member clubs represented by nearly 19,000 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 23 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.


Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
