Alabama Golf Association Raises Nearly $25,000 for Youth on Course

100 Hole Hikers to Raise Awareness and Support for Youth on Course Alabama

HOOVER, AL (September 30, 2020) – On Monday, September 28, 2020, the Alabama Golf Association walked and played 100 holes of golf to increase awareness and support for Youth on Course. The AGA Staff, alongside YOC Alabama Board Members Hunter Bronson, Spike McRoy and Jimmy Green, exceeded fundraising goals to raise nearly $25,000. Every dollar donated goes directly towards supporting Youth on Course Alabama.

The golfers walked more than 24 miles and played 100 holes at a brisk pace, starting around 6 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m., in an effort to advance the game of golf among youth in Alabama.

“Junior golf is near and dear to our hearts, and it’s what we do - setting up the next generation - so it’s very important that we do everything that we possibly can to provide those opportunities to the juniors,” said Andy Priest, the Executive Director of the Alabama Golf Association.

The Alabama Golf Association and Youth on Course (YOC) have partnered to open the door for more than 2,000 golfers in Alabama, ages 6-18, to play rounds of golf for $5 or less at participating facilities. The core purpose of Youth on Course is to provide life-changing opportunities through golf.

Now in its 14th year nationally and 1st year in Alabama, Youth on Course now operates in 38 states and Canada. A donation of just $100 ensures that 20 youth golfers will get the chance to play a round of golf. For participating facilities in Alabama, we recognize that the $5.00 fee may not adequately cover the expense of the round so each course is subsidized at a negotiated rate for the remainder of the green fee.

The core purpose of Youth on Course is to provide youth with access to life-changing opportunities through golf, with the goal of helping young people grow and succeed both on and off the course by providing opportunities to play, learn, grow and build relationships through affordable, inclusive access to play.  Members play thousands of courses for $5 or less, benefit from career opportunities through the caddie and internship program and receive college scholarships.  Headquartered in Pebble Beach, Youth on Course is a 501(c)3 organization that began as the charitable arm of the Northern California Golf Association. Since 2006, more than one million rounds have been played by Youth on Course members and nearly $2 million has been awarded to college scholarships.  Across North America, Youth on Course serves Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and parts of Canada.

An important purpose of the Alabama Golf Association is to grow the game.  The AGA and the Youth on Course Alabama Board of Directors are committed to getting youth golfing at an affordable rate across the State of Alabama.  For the participating facilities in Alabama, the AGA recognize that the $5.00 fee may not adequately cover the expense of the round so each course is subsidized a negotiated rate by the Alabama Golf Association for the remainder of the green fee.
