Top 3 things considered by coaches for scholarships
Academics: GPA, Test Scores, and Overall Academic Performance
Ability: High School tournaments are not the only indicators of success. Coaches also evaluate players performance in outside events such as State Association, USGA, and other national/regional/local tournaments
Character: Some coaches are willing to take a shot on a player with a potential for success if the player has exceptional character
Recruiting Timeline (Freshman-Senior Year)
Freshman/Sophomore Year:
- The player may begin to recieve questionnaires, NCAA materials and other recruiting publications
- The player can make phone calls to a coach. A college coach cannot call you.
- The player is allowed to take an unlimited number of unoffical visits (excluding dead-periods), but cannot take any official visits
- The NCAA recommends players to register with the eligibilty center by the players Sophomore year
- Beginning September 1 of the players Junior year, all forms of electronic communication (text message, email, etc.) are allowed
- The player may make calls to the coach and coaches can begin calling the player after September 1
- The player is allowed to take an unlimited number of unoffical visits (excluding dead-periods), but cannot take any official visits
- Beginning September 1 of the players Junior year, all forms of electronic communication (text message, email, etc.) are allowed
- The player may make calls to the coach and coaches can begin calling the player after September 1 of the players junior year. Unlimted phones calls from the coach are allowed once the player signs a National Letter of Intent, written offer of admission and/or financial aid
- The player is allowed to take an unlimited number of unoffical visits (excluding dead-periods)
- The player is allowed to take one official visit per college and up to a maximum of five (Division I) and no limit for Division II.
