Waldrop Stretches Her Lead at the Alabama Girls State Junior Championship

Birmingham's Caroline Waldrop fired a 69 to stretch her lead at Montgomery Country Club

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Round two results of the 55th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Ala. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 (5800 yards (35-35—70), 74.3/137).

The 55th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship continued today at Montgomery Country Club. The hot, humid weather continued for the second round with the heat index reaching over 100 degrees once again.

Birmingham’s Caroline Waldrop fired a one-under par 69 in the second round, stretching her lead to two shots. Her round consisted of four birdies, twelve pars, one bogey, and one double-bogey. Waldrop will play in the final championship group tomorrow teeing off at 9:20a.m.

Following an uncharacteristic first round, defending champion Michaela Morard came back with a one-under par 69 to move into second place. She made three birdies on the day and had a back nine of straight pars. Her 36-hole total of 142 is two shots back of Waldrop.

Mikayla Dubnik of Hartselle continues to lead the 14/15 age division following a seven-over par 77 on day two. Dubnik made two birdies on the day.

The 12/13 age division is being led by Montgomery’s Virginia Anne Holmes after a thirteen-over par 83. The 12/13 age division will tee off at 9:30a.m. tomorrow.

•          69 (-1) was the low round of the day carded by Caroline Waldrop, Michaela Morard, and Lauren Gilchrist

14/15 Age Division

•          The field average score for round one was 82.10

•          77 (+7) was the low round of the day carded by Mikayla Dubnik

•          12 birdies posted in round two

•          Easiest hole: No. 12, 470 yard par 5, 4.8 scoring average

•          Hardest Hole: No. 13, 398 yard par 4, 5.3 scoring average

12/13 Age Division

•          The field average score for round one was 87.60

•          83 (+13) was the low round of the day carded by Virginia Anne Holmes and Anna Christian Beeker

•          3 birdies posted in round one

•          Easiest hole: No. 11, 154 yard par 3, 3.2 scoring average

•          Hardest Hole: No. 3, 355 yard par 4, 6.0 scoring average
