Cammie Bently defeated Mary Kate Horton 2&1 to win the Women's Amateur Championship
MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. – Final results of the 86th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by The Country Club of Birmingham in Mountain Brook, Ala. on Friday, July 13, 2018 (6002 yards, par 35-36—71, 75.9/143).
The 86th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship concluded today with the final match play stages. The semi-finals of the championship division teed off at 7:30a.m. with Cammie Bentley of Newport facing Ally Williams of Athens, and Mary Kate Horton of Birmingham facing Jordan Susce also of Birmingham.

In the first semi-final Cammie Bentley defeated Ally Williams 6 and 5 to make her way into the final. Bentley won holes one, four, six, eight, nine, ten, 11, and 12 to claim the victory. She has previous success in the championship having won in 2013.
The second semi-final match saw Mary Kate Horton defeat Jordan Susce 5 and 4. Horton made three birdies during her match, including one on the 14th hole to book her ticket to the final. This is the furthest Horton has ever made it in The Women’s Amateur Championship.
In the consolation flight of the championship division Chloe Borders of Jacksonville made a come back against Aleesha Smith of Grand Bay, winning the first semi-final match on the 19th hole. Julie Baker of Hoover defeated Grayson Gladden of Helena, 5 and 4 to secure a spot in the final.
In the tournament division, Linda Jeffrey of Prattville, Ann Lanier of Fairhope, and Nancy Gavin of Jacksons Gap completed their 36 hole three-player match. Beginning the day at 4up against Gavin and 8up against Lanier, Jeffrey continued her fine play beating Gavin 8 and 7 and Lanier 10 and 8.
Five-time champion Chris Spivey was one of seven players to win a flight in the senior division.

The final of the 86th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship teed off at 12:30p.m. with 2013 champion Cammie Bentley facing Mary Kate Horton. Bentley won holes one, three, four, seven, and 12 to defeat Horton 2 and 1. She qualified for the match play as the fourth seed and took down seeds five, eight, ten, and 13 on her route to victory. This win makes her a two-time Alabama Women’s State Amateur Champion.
In the final of the championship division consolation flight, Chloe Boarders defeated Julie Baker 3 and 2. She won holes one, three, four, five, eight, 11, and 16.
