Goose Pond Colony Resort to Host 56th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship

Goose Pond Colony Resort (Lake Course) in Scottsboro, AL

HOOVER, AL (June 21, 2019) – Goose Pond Colony Resort (Lake Course) will host the 56th Alabama Girls State Junior Championship in Scottsboro from June 24-26, 2019. The par-72 course will welcome 55 players this coming Monday.

This will be the first year Goose Pond Colony Resort has hosted the Girls State Junior Championship. Club is located on the banks of the Tennessee River’s Lake Guntersville and in between the Cumberland Mountains.

55 players are registered to compete in this year’s championship, which is an all-time record number of entries for the Alabama Girls State Junior Championship.

Last year’s champion, Michaela Morard of Huntsville, won by 14 shots, carding an overall score of 205 (-11) at Montgomery Country Club. Morard will be defending her title at this year’s championship.

2018 Champion: Michaela Morard of Huntsville (205)

Most Titles: Martha Lang holds the record with four victories (1967-1970).

Format: Championship is conducted at 54 holes of stroke play for players age 12-18. 27 holes (9 each day) for players age 8-11. Players in the 14-18 Age Division will play the same tees and will be eligible to win the overall Championship. The lowest score for 54 holes in either the 14-15 or 16-18 Age Divisions will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole by hole play-off will be held immediately following play.
