Gadsden Country Club to Host 12th Alabama Women's State Four-Ball Championship

HOOVER, AL (July 22, 2019) – The best women amateurs in the state will travel to Gadsden Country Club in Gadsden for the 12th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship from July 24-25. This is the first time that Gadsden Country Club has hosted the Women’s State Four-Ball Championship.

 

HOOVER, AL (July 22, 2019) – The Alongside the 12th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship, AGA will host the Inaugural Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship. A field of 34 players (17 teams), ages 50 and up, will compete for the Women’s State Senior Four-Ball title.

12 players (six teams) are registered to compete in this year’s championship, while three teams are set to compete in the tournament division. The team of Sophie Burks of Montgomery and Mary Kate Horton of Birmingham defended their title in 2018 at Peninsula Golf & Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, AL. Burks and Horton will not be competing for the three peat this year.

2018 Champion: Sophie Burks of Montgomery and Mary Kate Horton of Birmingham

Most Titles: (3) - Kathy Hartwiger and Lea Green (2009, 2010 and 2014)

Format: Championship is conducted at 36 holes of gross four-ball stroke play. 2 Divisions: Championship and Tournament. Tournament Division will be flighted after 18 holes based on score if necessary. An on-course hole by hole play-off will be used to break a tie for the overall championship in both the Championship and Senior.

Eligibility: Entries are open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.
