Highland Park Golf Course to Host Alabama Golf Association’s 3rd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 21, 2022) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 3rd 13 & Under Junior Championships will be held at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, Alabama, on June 22-23, 2022. 67 golfers will compete for the 3rd 13 & Under Junior Championship titles. Players will compete in six age divisions: 
  • Boys 12-13 Age Division – 35 players
  • Boys 9-11 Age Division – 14 players
  • Boys 6-8 Age Division – 10 players
  • Girls 12-13 Age Division – 4 players
  • Girls 9-11 Age Division – 3 players
  • Girls 6-8 Age Division – 1 player

This year marks the first time Highland Park Golf Course has hosted the Alabama State 13 & Under Championships. The inaugural Alabama Boys State 13 & Under Champion, Tyler Watts, claimed the title at Goose Pond Colony, setting a new course record in 2020 with his Final Round score of 11-under 61. Christine Chang of Auburn won the inaugural Alabama Girls State 13 & Under Junior Championship in 2020 at Valley Hill Country Club in Huntsville, Alabama, posting a six-over 150 to secure her title.

Entries for the 3rd Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships are open to any male or female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama with an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club and qualifies under the following age requirements:
  • 12-13 Age Division: Must have reached 12th birthday, but not 14th birthday, on or before June 22, 2022.
  • 9-11 Age Division: Must have reached 9th birthday, but not 12th birthday, on or before June 22, 2022.
  • 6-8 Age Division: Must have reached 6th birthday, but not 9th birthday, on or before June 22, 2022.

    • Yardage: 5539 yards
    • Course/Slope Rating: 67.3/123
  • Male 6-8 Age Division
    • Yardage: 3919 yards
    • Course/Slope Rating: 64.1/114
  • Female 9-11 & 12-13 Age Divisions
    • Yardage: 5069 yards
    • Course/Slope Rating: 71.2/123
  • Female 6-8 Age Division
    • Yardage: 3919 yards
    • Course/Slope Rating: 68.1/116
Championship Format:
  • 36 holes of gross individual stroke play for players 9-11 & 12-13 Age Divisions. 
  • 18 holes (9 each day) for the 6-8 Age Division.
  • The lowest score for 36 holes in the Overall Division (9-11 and 12-13 Age Divisions) will be the Overall Champion.
  • In the event of a tie for the Overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee. 
  • Any other ties in all other divisions will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation within the Committee Procedures of the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards” 
  • Initial groupings will be for Round One. Players will be repaired by score for the Final Round.

8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.: Player Registration in the Clubhouse outside of the Pro Shop.
 
Wednesday, June 22, 2022
Round 1: Tee times at 7:30 a.m. off #1 & #10 tees.
Field regrouped according to score.
 
Thursday, June 23, 2022
Round 2: Tee times at 7:30 a.m. off #1 & #10 tees.
Awards ceremony immediately following play.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
