Burningtree Country Club to Host 26th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship & 5th Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship

DECATUR, AL (May 18, 2023) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 26th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship & 5th Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, AL from May 19-21, 2023.
82 golfers will compete for the coveted State Senior Championship title, and 37 players will compete for the Super-Senior Championship title.  
 
 
This marks the first time Burningtree Country Club has hosted the Alabama State Senior and Alabama State Super-Senior Championships. Defending Champion, Robert Nelson of Fairhope, returns to compete for this year’s State Senior title. David Head of Sterrett returns to this year’s field to defend his 2022 State Super-Senior title. The inaugural State Senior Champion, Sam Farlow of Birmingham, holds the record of most wins with 6 victories (1998, 2000-2004).    
  
State Senior Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 and has reached his 50th birthday by May 19, 2023.  
  
State Super-Senior Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 15.4 and has reached his 65th birthday by May 19, 2023.  
  
State Senior & Super-Senior Amateur Championship(s) Facts:    
Yardage: 6548 yards (State Senior); 5982 yards (State Super-Senior)   
Course & Slope Rating: 71.9/142 (State Senior); 68.8/122 (State Super-Senior)   
 
Championship Format:    
• 54 holes of gross individual stroke play.    
• The field will be cut to the low TBD players and ties after 36 holes.    
• The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion.    
• In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. All other ties will be split equally.    
• Initial groupings will be for the first two rounds. Following the cut, the field will be re-paired by score for the final round.

Saturday, May 20, 2023   
7:30 a.m. – Morning tee times off #1 & #10 tees.   
12:00 p.m. – Afternoon tee times off #1 & #10 tees.    
Field cut to low TBD players and ties.   
Field re-grouped according to score.    
 
Sunday, May 21, 2023   
7:30 a.m. – Tee times off #1 & #10 tees.    
18 holes of Stroke Play.
