RTJ Capitol Hill To Host Alabama Golf Association’s 109th Alabama State Amateur Championship

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (June 3, 2025) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 109th Alabama State Amateur Championship will take place at RTJ Capitol Hill (Senator) in Prattville, AL, June 4-7, 2025. This week, 156 golfers will compete for the 2025 Alabama State Amateur Championship title.

This year’s Championship marks the first time RTJ Capitol Hill has hosted the Alabama State Amateur Championship. Tom Fischer of Birmingham, AL won the title in 2024 at Shoal Creek Club in Shoal Creek, AL. He carded 13-under 275 to claim his victory. The Championship was first played in 1915 at Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, AL. Jack Allison of Birmingham, AL defeated Norborne R. Clarke 13 and 12 to win the inaugural event. The Championship was not played in 1917-18 due to World War I. Format was changed from match play to stroke play in 1955.
 
2025 Alabama State Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 5.9. 
 
College Student Eligibility: A college student is considered a resident of their parent(s)/guardian(s) “Legal Residency Criteria” as stated in the AGA Tournament Manual unless said student (a) has no dependency on his/her parents; and (b) lives full time in Alabama.

Championship Format: 
  • The field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes.  
  • The lowest score for 72 holes will be the Champion.
  • In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the Committee.
  • Initial groupings will be for two days; the field will be cut and re-paired by score after the second round.

7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m: Player registration is located in the foyer of the main Clubhouse.
Wednesday, June 4 
Round 1: Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. off #1 & #10 tees. 18 holes Stroke Play.
Thursday, June 5 
Round 2: Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. off #1 & #10 tees. 18 holes Stroke Play. 
Cut to low 60 scores and ties. 
Field re-grouped according to score.
Friday, June 6 
Round 3: Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. off #1 & #10 tees. 18 holes Stroke Play. 
Field re-grouped according to score.
Saturday, June 7 
Round 4: Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. off #1 & #10 tees. 18 holes Stroke Play. 
Awards ceremony immediately following play at scoreboard.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 30,000 individuals. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
