Joe H. King Award

Steve Hudson of Birmingham has been honored with the 2026 Joe H. King Award, the highest distinction presented by the AGA in amateur golf. Hudson began his involvement with the AGA’s Board of Directors in 1995 and went on to serve as Secretary from 2017-2018, Vice President from 2019-2020 and President from 2021-2022. He currently leads the AGA’s Youth on Course Alabama and Foundation Fundraising committee. Hudson has a decorated career, with 15 USGA tournament starts, six AGA wins, a three-time AGA Player of the Year, two-time AGA Senior Player of the Year, and an inductee in the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. Steve Hudson’s love for the game of golf and commitment to the Alabama Golf Association embodies what the Joe H. King Award represents - to recognize individuals from Alabama who have demonstrated either a career of outstanding playing achievements or have made lasting contributions through their dedication and service to the game.

“The Hudson family — and Steve in particular — have long been synonymous with excellence in golf throughout Alabama,” said Jeremy Gardner, Executive Director. “In addition to his distinguished playing career, Steve has made a profound and lasting impact on the AGA and on the game of golf across our state. This recognition is both fitting and well deserved.”

Sadie Roberts Award

Mickey Zarra of Homewood received the 2025 Sadie Roberts Volunteer of the Year Award. Zarra officially began volunteering with the AGA at the State Amateur Championship hosted by the Country Club of Birmingham, and has since become a friendly face at countless AGA events.
