CALERA, AL - Second round results of the 44th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Timberline Golf Club in Calera, AL on Thursday, April 21, 2016 (Championship: 5345 yards, par 36-35—71, 70.3/114; Tournament/Super Senior: 4808 yards, par 36-35—71, 67.2/108).
Defending champion Susan West of Tuscaloosa extended her lead to nine shots heading into the final round after posting an even par 71 in round two. Three-time champion Martha Lang of Birmingham stands alone in second place at 154.
Tournament division was divided into five flights by score for the final round. Sarah Vandervoort of Montgomery holds an 11 stroke lead over Barbee Bryant of Birmingham in the first flight.
Super Senior division began their 36-hole championship today with Linda Burns of Decatur carding an 89 for a two shot lead over Avonne Shelton of Decatur.
Championship division is conducted on a stroke play basis for 54 holes, 18 holes daily on April 20-22, 2016. Championship flight consists of the low 8 handicap indexes as of the April 15, 2016 GHIN revision and any other players who choose to opt-in to the Championship flight. All other participants will be placed into flights based on their score after 36 holes. The Super Senior Division will be conducted on a stroke play basis for 36 holes, 18 holes daily on April 21-22, 2016. Players must have reached age 65 by April 21, 2016 to compete in the Super Senior Division. Players may not compete in both the Senior Division and Super Senior Division.
Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by April 20, 2016, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 36.4.
