Horton and Burks Win the 10th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship

FOLEY, AL – Final Round results of the 10th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by GlenLakes Golf Club (Vista/Dunes) in Foley, AL on Thursday, June 28, 2016 (Championship Division: 5902 yards, par 36-36—72, 70.8/118; Tournament Division: 5575 yards, par 36-36—72, 70.1/116; Senior Division: 4255 yards, par 36-36—72­­­, 64.5/110.)

Mary Kate Horton of Birmingham and Sophie Burks from Montgomery shot a final round score of 69 (-3) to win by one in the Championship Division.  Susan West of Tuscaloosa and Arin Eddy of Hartselle fired a 70 (-2) to place runner-up.

Linda Jeffery of Prattville and Lea Green of McCalla shot a final round score of 71 (-1)  to win the Tournament Division by eleven strokes with a total of 138. Barbee Bryant of Birmingham and Pia Todora of Hoover shot a final round 67 (-5) to win the First Flight in the Senior Division. In the Second Flight of the Senior Division, Carolyn Blue of Foley and Nancy Syphurs of Foley shot 77 (+5) to win by one.  Dianne Mills of Muscle Shoals and Teresa Machtolff of Sheffield won the Third Flight in the Senior Division after posting a final round 79 (+7).

Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama and has an active GHIN USGA Handicap Index at an AGA member club.  Three divisions within the championship: Championship, Tournament, and Senior.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
