Team Alabama Announced for the 7th Southern Junior Cup at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton, MO

HOOVER, AL- The seventh playing of the Southern Junior Cup Matches will take place in Camdenton, MO from August 1-2, 2018 at Old Kinderhook.  Alabama will field a team for the third time after claiming the cup in last year’s event in Oxford, MS. Alabama will compete against teams from Arkansas, Mississippi, and Missouri. This invitation only event is comprised of a select group of six female juniors and six male junior players selected by each state golf association.  

Format
Southern Junior Cup format consists of 18 holes of match play with Four-Ball, Foursomes, and singles match play sessions. Each match is worth 1 point. Half point to each side for a tie. Each state competes against the other three states in an equal number of matches. Four-Ball and Foursomes partners consists of one male and one female sides, while individual matches pits male vs. male and female vs. female.  
 
Event History
Past Winners: Oklahoma (2012, 13, 14 ,15), Alabama (2016, 2017). Alabama replaced Oklahoma in 2016. Future Host Sites: Alabama (2019), Arkansas (2020), Mississippi (2021)

2018 Alabama Southern Junior Cup Team

Female Team Members

Michaela Morard, 16, of Huntsville is a rising high school junior at Randolph School. Currently the #1 ranked female golfer in Alabama. She is the 2018 Alabama Girls State Junior Champion, 2016 and 2018 Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Champion, and set the tournament scoring record with a blistering 21-under (63-66-66) clearing second place by 11 shots.  4th individually at the 2017 USGA Women’s State team and qualified for match play at both the USGA US Girls Junior and USGA US Girls Amateur.  Morard has verbally committed to playing for the University of Alabama in 2020. This is her third year on the Southern Junior Cup team (Record: 6-0)

Ally Williams, 17, of Athens is a rising senior at Athens High School. Advanced to the Round of 16 at 2017 Alabama Women’s State Amateur, at Alabama State Junior Girls, and qualified for the 2018 USGA US Women’s Four Ball at El Caballero in California and a quarterfinalist at the 2018 Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship. Williams has verbally committed to play for Mississippi State University.  Currently the #2 ranked female junior golfer in Alabama. This is her third year on the Southern Junior Cup team (Record: 4-2)

Allison Howard, 17, of Newton is a rising senior at Providence Christian School. She is the 2017-2018 AHSAA 1A-3A State Champion, 6th at Alabama State Junior Girls, and multiple top 5 SJGT finishes. This is her first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

Mary Mac Trammell, 18, of Birmingham will be a freshman at the University of Alabama.  She finished 8th at the 2018 Alabama Girls State Junior Championship, 16th at the Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship, and has multiple SJGT Top-5 finishes.  Trammell also made the Round of 16 at the 2018 Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Birmingham where she lost to eventual championship Cammie Bentley.  This is her first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

Lauren Gilchrist, 16, of Spanish Fort is a rising junior at UMS-Wright High School. 4th place at 2018 Alabama Girls State Junior Championship, qualified for the 2018 Girls Junior PGA, one win and multiple top 5 SJGT finishes, and one AJGA top 10 finish.  This is her first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

Elisabeth Preus, 17, of Auburn is a rising senior at Auburn High School.  She was a member of the State Champion Auburn High Girls golf team, quarterfinalist at the 2018 Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship, and has multiple SJGT titles. Preus is a 2019 verbal commit to Troy University. This is her first Southern Junior Cup team selection. 

Male Team Members

Connor Reid, 18, of Auburn will be a freshman at Samford University in Birmingham, AL.  He is the 2017-2018 AISA State Champion, Semi-finalist at 2017 Alabama Men’s State Match Play, T4 at 2017 Alabama Boys State Junior Championship, and multiple SJGT top 5 finishes.  This is his first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

Connor Newton, 18, of Auburn will be a freshman at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC. Made the cut at the 2018 Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship, T17 at the 2018 Alabama Boys State Junior and multiple top-5 SJGT finishes. This is his second year on the Southern Junior Cup team (Record 2-1).

Will Patrick, 16, of Oneonta is a rising junior at Oneonta High School. Qualified for the 2018 Southern Amateur Championship, 3rd at 2017-2018 4A AHSAA State High School Championship, made the cut at the 2018 Alabama Men’s State Amateur and has multiple SJGT top 5 finishes.  This is his first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

Hunter Battles, 17, of Tuscumbia is a rising senior at Muscle Shoals High School. Qualified for the 2018 Southern Amateur Championship, 3rd at 2017-2018 6A AHSAA State High School Championship, made the cut at the 2018 Alabama Men’s State Amateur and has a 2018 SJGT title. Battles finished second at the 2018 Alabama Boys State Junior Championship after an opening round 64, which tied the competitive round course record at GlenLakes Golf Club. This is his first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

Cole Davidson, 15, of Oneonta is sophomore at Oneonta High School.  Qualified for the 2018 Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship, Champion at the 2017-2018 4A AHSAA State High School Championship, 22nd at the 2018 Future Masters and has multiple SJGT top-10 finishes including one victory. Davidson is a Class of 2021 verbal commit to Auburn University. This is his first Southern Junior Cup team selection.

William Wethington, 17, of Gadsden is a rising senior at Gadsden High School.  2nd Place at the 2017-2018 AHSAA State High School Championships, Qualified for the 2018 Alabama Men’s State Amateur Championship and T7 at 2018 Alabama Boys State Junior Championship this past week at GlenLakes Golf Club.  Wethington as multiple top-5 finishes on the SJGT and HJGT junior golf tours.  This is his first Southern Junior Cup team selection.
