West and Glover race out to Lead after Round 1 of the Alabama Women’s State Senior and Super Senior Championships

FOLEY, AL (April 17, 2019) - First round results of the 46th Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship and 1st Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship hosted by GlenLakes Golf Club in Foley, AL on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 (Championship Division: 5508 yards, par 36-36—72, 72.1/121; Tournament Division: 4792 yards, par 36-36—72, 68.1/112; Super Senior Championship: 4255 yards, par 36-36—72, 64.4/110).

Susan West of Tuscaloosa posted an opening round of 74 to hold a five-stroke lead over the Theresa Mahlik of Madison.

Melanie Smith of Hoover posted a 79 to take a one stroke lead advantage over Debbie Atchley of Pelham in the Tournament Division.

The Senior Overall Champion is the player who posts the lowest 36-hole score from the Championship Division.  Tournament Division plays a shorter course and ineligible for the overall championship.

In the Super-Senior Championship, Lynn Glover’s opening round of 81 was good enough to give her a four shot lead over Linda Houston of Gulf Shores.

The Super-Senior Champion is the player who posts the lowest 36-hole score within the Super-Senior Championship.

Alabama Women’s State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 50th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

Alabama Women’s State Super-Senior Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who has reached her 65th birthday by the first day of the championship, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,000 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
