Jack Goldasich Fires Final Round 66 to Win Alabama State Amateur Title

Killen, AL - Final results of the 103rd Alabama State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen, AL on Sunday, June 9, 2019 (7090 yards, par 36-36 -- 72, Rating: 74.8/134).

Heading into the final round three shots off the lead, Jack Goldasich of Birmingham fired a final round bogey-free, six-under 66 to win the 103rd Alabama State Amateur Championship with a 278 total (-9).

Goldasich won by two strokes over his younger brother Ford (finished at 280 (-7)) and by seven strokes over his older brother Sam who finished in 10th place at 285 (-2).

Finishing in a tie for third place at 281 (-6) are Will McFadden of Mobile and Austin Coggin of Birmingham.

Defending champion, Matt Lorenz of Fairhope, posted a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for 29th place at 293 (+6).

The course played to a par 72 layout for rounds 1, 3 and 4. The 435-yard par 4 sixth hole played as a 182-yard par 3 during Friday’s second round due to unplayable conditions which changed the course from its traditional par 72 layout to a par 71.

The top 30 and ties are exempt for the 104th Alabama State Amateur Championship that will be played at Saugahatchee Country Club in Auburn from June 11-14, 2020.

Alabama State Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 8.4.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 20 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
