Indian Hills Country Club to Host 74th Alabama Boys State Junior Championship

TUSCALOOSA, AL (July 22, 2019) – The Alabama Golf Association will host the 74th Alabama Boys State Junior Championship at Indian Hills Country Club in Tuscaloosa from July 23-25. The par-72 John LaFoy course welcomes 147 players from across the state on Tuesday.

This is the third time that Indian Hills Country Club has hosted the Boys State Junior Championship (1992 - Chip Deason; 2004 – Patton Kizzire). The Championship was first played in 1946 with Walter Wood winning the inaugural event. Bobby Wyatt of Mobile holds the record with 4 victories (2007-2010).

Nick Dunlap, of Birmingham won the title in 2018 at GlenLakes Golf Club. Dunlap finished at 206 (-10) five shots ahead of Tuscumbia’s Hunter Battles. Dunlap moved to South Carolina and will not defend.

Most Titles: 4 - Bobby Wyatt of Mobile (2007-2010).

Format: 54 holes of gross individual stroke play for players ages 12-18. 27 holes (9 each day) for players ages 8-11. Players in the Overall Divisions will play the same tees and will be eligible to win the overall Championship. The field (14-18) will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes. There will be no cut for the 8-11 or 12-13 Age Divisions. The lowest score for 54 holes in the Overall Division will be the Champion. In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play.

8:00am-4:00pm: Player Registration in the Clubhouse Foyer adjacent to the golf shop.

Tuesday, July 23

Round 1: Tee times at 7:30am & 12:30pm off #1 & #10 tees.

11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted player lunch in the Clubhouse

Wednesday, July 24

Round 2: Tee times at 7:30am & 12:30pm off #1 & #10 tees.

11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted player lunch in the Clubhouse

Cut to low 60 scores and ties. Field re-grouped according to score.

Thursday, July 25

Round 3: Tee times at 7:30am off #1 & #10 tees.

11:00am-3:00pm: Hosted player lunch in the Clubhouse.

Awards ceremony immediately following play at scoreboard.
