Pope/Stephens and Borders/Dyar Tie for Round One Lead in the 12th Alabama Women's State Four-Ball Championship

GADSDEN, AL – Round one results of the 12th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Gadsden Country Club in Gadsden, AL on Wednesday, July 24, 2019.

The 12th Alabama Women’s State Four-Ball Championship began today with 52 players (26 teams) teeing off at Gadsden Country Club. The championship division had six teams competing and the tournament division had three teams.

Play began with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Team members each played their own balls, however recorded the best individual score at each hole counted as their team score.

With scores of two-under par 69, the teams of Annalee Stephens of Florence and Hannah Pope of Jasper, and Chloe Borders of Anniston and Layne Dyar of Jacksonville are tied for first place in the championship division after the first round.

Tied for third place with a score of one-under par 70 are the teams of Anna Claire Little and Elisabeth Preus both of Auburn, and Linda Jeffery of Birmingham and Stacy Quilling of Prattville.

In the tournament division, the teams of Keri Rutledge of Birmingham and Theresa Mahlik of Madison, and Laura Beth Yates of Hoover and Melanie Smith of Lake View are tied after both fired two-under par 69.

Kathy Hartwiger of Birmingham and Lea Green of McCalla are tied for first place in the senior championship with Chris Spivey of Pell City and Sue Solomon of Birmingham. Both teams shot five-under par 66 to co-lead the Inaugural Alabama Women’s State Senior Four-Ball Championship following round one. There are 17 teams competing in the senior championship.

The final round will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.

This championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
