The Country Club of Mobile to Host 24th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship & 3rd Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship

MOBILE, AL (May 13, 2021) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 24th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship & 3rd Alabama State Super-Senior Amateur Championship will be held at The Country Club of Mobile in Mobile, AL from May 14-16, 2021. 78 golfers will compete for the coveted State Senior Championship title, and 36 players will compete for the Super-Senior Championship title.

This marks the first time The Country Club of Mobile has hosted the Alabama State Senior and Alabama State Super-Senior Championships. Defending Champion, David Hancock of Greenville, returns to compete for this year’s State Senior title. Stewart “Buddy” Alexander of Auburn returns to this year’s field to defend his 2020 State Super-Senior title. Alexander was also the inaugural State Super-Senior Champion in 2019. The inaugural State Senior Champion, Sam Farlow of Birmingham, won in 1998. Farlow holds the record with 6 victories (1998, 2000-2004).

State Senior Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 and has reached his 50th birthday by May 14, 2021.

State Super-Senior Amateur Championship entries are open to any male amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 15.4 and has reached his 65th birthday by May 14, 2021.

Yardage: 6359 yards (State Senior); 5682 yards (State Super-Senior)

Course & Slope Rating: 70.8/126 (State Senior); 67.8/120 (State Super-Senior)

Championship Format:

• 54 holes of gross individual stroke play.

• The field will be cut to the low TBD players and ties after 36 holes.

• The lowest score for 54 holes will be the Champion.

• In the event of a tie for the Championship, a hole-by-hole play-off will be held immediately following play. The play-off holes and order of play will be determined by the AGA. All other ties will be split equally.

• Initial groupings will be for the first two rounds. Following the cut, the field will be re-paired by score for the final round.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
