Prior to advancing to the Final Round, he held a 5-stroke lead. Sargent secured his back-to-back title, finishing Round Four at even-par 71. Overall, Sargent fired 17-under 267.

“I was looking forward to the task of defending this week,” Sargent says. “I ended up making ten birdies this afternoon, when my putter got hot. That was a pretty good feeling. I can’t thank the AGA enough for what they’ve done. It’s pretty special to have my name on the trophy twice, especially when the field was so great.”

Connor Newton of Auburn finished second, posting a Final Round two-under-par 69. For Round Three, he shot one-under-par 70. Overall, he carded 14-under 270 for the Championship.

“It felt good,” Newton says. “This is the first time I’ve been in contention, so I thought I handled myself well. I had a fun week.”

Ford Goldasich of Homewood posted two-under-par 69 for the final round, to claim third place. He finished eight-under 276 for the Championship.

“This week I just really hit the ball well, and I put it on the greens,” Goldasich says. “I had some good up and downs. It feels amazing.”

In 2020, Gordon became the youngest player in the modern era to be named the State Amateur Champion. He is the first back-to-back champion since 2015. Sargent is the 2020 Alabama Men’s Amateur Player of the Year, as well as the 2020 Alabama State Boys Junior Player of the Year.
