King and Fite Lead Round One of the 40th Alabama State Four-Ball Championship



DECATUR, AL (April 28, 2022) – First round results of the 40th Alabama State Four-Ball Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Burningtree Country Club in Decatur, AL on Thursday, April 28, 2022. (7032 yards, 73.9/123).

Jackson King of Hoover and Freeman Fite of Anniston opened with a nine-under 62 to take a one stroke lead over Hunter Hawkins of Fort Payne and Brinson Holder of Point Clear after round one of the 40th Alabama State Four-Ball Championship.

Two teams stand in a tie for third at seven-under 64 that includes Will Swift of Vestavia Hills and Woodie Eubanks of Oneonta along with Nick Dunlap of Huntsville and Scott Weaver of Madison.

Defending champions Alex Balog of Elmore and Daniel Burns of Owens Cross Roads opened their title defense with a five-under 66 to stand in a tie for eighth place.

The second round will begin Friday at 7:30 a.m. Following round two, the field will be cut to 16 sides for match play.

Entries are open to sides of male amateur golfers who are legal residents of Alabama and have an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club. Maximum allowable combined team handicap is 16.8 under the USGA Handicap System™. Two players who play as partners comprise a side. Partners are not required to be from the same club. College Student Eligibility: A college student is considered a resident of their parent(s)/guardian(s) “Legal Residency Criteria” as stated in the AGA Tournament Manual unless said student (a) has no dependency on his/her parents; and (b) lives full time in Alabama.
