77th Alabama Boys State Junior Champion: Jackson Mitchell of Athens

ATHENS, AL (July 21, 2022) – Final Round results of the 77th Alabama Boys State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Canebrake Club, Athens, Alabama, on Thursday, July 21, 2022.

67 players competed in the Final Round today for the 77th Alabama Boys State Junior Champion title. Tee times were delayed until 8:00 a.m. due to inclement weather in the early morning and subsequent course conditions.
 
Jackson Mitchell of Athens made birdie on the first sudden death playoff hole to defeat Chase Kyes and claim victory as the 77th Alabama Boys State Junior Champion. He fired an impressive 10-under 62 for the Final Round and 18-under 198 for the tournament.
 
“It feels very rewarding when it’s said and done,” said Mitchell. “It feels even more special to win it at my home course in front of my friends and family and people that I play around every single day.”
 
Chase Kyes of Birmingham finished second, posting a five-under 67 for the day and an 18-under 198 for the Championship.
 
Ward Harris of Vestavia Hills carded a 17-under 199 for the Championship to claim third. He finished seven-under 65 for the day.
 
Tyler Watts of Huntsville finished fourth. Watts finished with an eight-under 64 for the round and a 13-under 203 for the tournament.  
 
Cole Komyati of Elberta defeated Trace Bracknell of Tuscaloosa in a scorecard playoff to finish fifth. Komyati and Bracknell each finished with a 12-under 204 for the tournament.
 
The 77th Alabama Boys State Junior Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.
 
About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
