POINT CLEAR, AL (July 23, 2022) – The 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match will take place at Lakewood Golf Club, in Point Clear, AL, on July 24-25, 2022. The event highlights 12-woman teams representing Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Each team consists of eight amateurs and four senior amateurs (age 50+) selected by their respective state golf association.

Each match is worth one point with a half-point awarded for halved matches. No points are awarded for lost matches.

Event History
The Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match debuted in 2012 as an event intended to promote goodwill and competition between the best amateur players, playing as a team, from Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The event is played biannually with women in even-numbered years and men competing in odd-numbered years. The site rotates between the three states.
 
●       Past Winners: Florida has won two matches, Georgia has two victories, and Alabama has no wins to date.
●       The Country Club of Ocala in Ocala, FL hosted the first Challenge Match in 2012. Florida defeated Georgia and Alabama with total scores of 24, 20.5 and 18.5, respectively.
●       The 2020 match was canceled due to COVID-19. The 2018 match was hosted by the Amelia Island Club at Long Point, Amelia Island, FL. Georgia defeated Florida and Alabama with total scores of 25.5, 25, and 12.5, respectively.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 115 member clubs represented by over 24,000 individuals. Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
