Team Alabama Wins Sixth Consecutive Southern Junior Cup

DIAMONDHEAD, MS (Aug. 2, 2022) – Final results of the 2022 Southern Junior Cup hosted by The Club at Diamondhead (Pine Course) in Diamondhead, MS, on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022.

The 2022 Southern Junior Cup team, representing Alabama, was victorious at this year’s event, defeating Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi teams. After competing in two days of four-ball, foursomes and singles matches, this is Alabama’s sixth consecutive win.
 
Round Two was shortened to nine-hole singles matches due to inclement weather. Play began with a shotgun start; boys’ matches took place on the front nine, and girls’ matches took place on the back nine.
 
The four-ball team of Morgan Slaton and Molly Brown Davidson poured eight birdies during Round One to make Team Alabama uncatchable.
 
Trace Bracknell, member of the 2021 and 2022 Team Alabama, shares about his 2022 Southern Junior Cup experience.
 
“Getting to be a part of the team for a second year in a row was pretty special and ever since last year I was hoping to have the opportunity to play on the team again,” said Bracknell.
 
Twelve Alabama junior players were selected for the 2022 Southern Junior Cup team. The Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams are six players each, recruited through the AGA team selection process.
 
This year’s Girls Team included the following junior golfers:

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 115 member clubs represented by over 24,000 individuals.
