Alabama Golf Association’s “Driving Fore the Game” License Plate Campaign Pre-Commitment Goal Reached

Alabama's First & Only Golf License Plate Hits the Road in 2023

HOOVER, AL (Oct. 14, 2022) – With 277 pre-commitments to date, Alabama’s first and only golf-themed license plate successfully surpassed the pre-commitment threshold and is targeted to become available in early 2023. Proceeds raised from the sale and renewal of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) license plate will directly support the association’s foundation to fund junior golf initiatives, scholarships and turfgrass research.

“After 14 months of promoting the ‘Driving Fore the Game’ campaign, we are incredibly excited to finally reach and surpass the license plate pre-commitment goal,” stated Andy Priest, AGA Executive Director. “The AGA appreciates each individual or business that purchased a license plate to support our efforts in driving the future of golf in our state.”

The original license plate application was for a Quantity Class 2 custom plate requiring 1000 pre-commitments; however, with 277 pre-commitments obtained, the AGA license plate now qualifies for a Quantity Class 1 status, which requires a minimum of 250 pre-commitments. Consequently, the original design will be updated to a generic tag design (white Alabama plate with AGA logo on the left).

With the change in application status and design, plate production will take approximately 12 weeks with anticipated availability in early February. Those who have pre-committed to purchase the license plate will receive an email from the ALDMV/DOR with the redemption voucher. Upon receiving the redemption voucher email, the individual may request the AGA plate at that time or choose to wait until your next renewal to redeem the voucher. The redemption voucher must be presented to a licensing official to obtain the license plate. The licensing official will issue a 60-day temporary tag to be displayed on the vehicle until the metal license plate is manufactured and shipped to the registrant since they are produced when ordered. Additionally, the AGA license plate may be personalized at no additional charge.

Timeline Summary:
●      By October 31: AGA to submit generic plate design and request downgrade to Quantity Class 1 (250 pre-commitments)
●      November-January: Receive Quantity Class 1 approval, receive redesign approval, begin plate production, pre-commitment applicants receive redemption voucher from ALDMV
●      February 1, 2023 (approximately): AGA license plates ready for issuance.
