Erwin and Watts Claim Victory at the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball Championship

HOOVER, AL (May 5, 2024) – Semifinal and Final results of the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball Championship held at Hoover Country Club in Hoover, AL on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Barak Erwin of Huntsville and Tyler Watts of Huntsville claimed the 42nd Alabama State Four-Ball title and became the youngest Champions in Alabama State Four-Ball history. Their opponents, Blake Kelley of Birmingham and Michael Garretson of Birmingham led the match through the front-nine and the Champions were down three after #10. 

Erwin and Watts battled through the back-nine until they caught momentum with birdies on holes #13, #17 and #18 made by Watts to tie the match. On the 19th hole, Erwin made a birdie putt to secure the historic victory. 

Erwin and Watts took an early lead in their Semifinals match against Wesley Pate of Vestavia Hills and Clint Provost of Vestavia Hills with five birdies by Watts; going on to defeat their opponents 5&4. 

In the morning Semifinals, Kelley and Garretson won their match against Blake Watts of Fort Payne and Will McCurdy of Auburn after 20 holes. 

This Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.

Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the SGA Board of Directors.
