BESSEMER, AL (July 20, 2026) – The Alabama Golf Association’s 7th Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championship will be held at Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer, AL, July 21-22, 2026. 85 golfers will compete for the Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championship title. Players will compete in six age divisions:
 
  • Boys 12-13 Age Division – 36 players
  • Boys 9-11 Age Division – 20 players
  • Boys 6-8 Age Division (9-Holes) – 10 players
  • Girls 12-13 Age Division – 10 players
  • Girls 9-11 Age Division – 7 players
  • Girls 6-8 Age Division (9-Holes) – 2 players

This marks the fourth consecutive year Bent Brook Golf Course has hosted the Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championship. The inaugural Alabama Boys State 13 & Under Champion, Tyler Watts, claimed the title at Goose Pond Colony, setting a new course record in 2020 with his Final Round score of 11-under 61. Mac Steltenpohl of Dothan took home back-to-back Alabama Boys State 13 & Under Junior Championship titles in 2024 & 2025.

Christine Chang of Auburn won the inaugural Alabama Girls State 13 & Under Junior Championship in 2020 at Valley Hill Country Club in Huntsville, Alabama, posting a six-over 150 to secure her title. Courtney Grace of Birmingham claimed victory at the 6th Alabama Girls State 13 & Under Junior Champion after carding an overall score of nine-under par 133. 

Entries for the 7th Alabama State 13 & Under Junior Championships are open to any male or female amateur golfer who is a legal resident of Alabama, has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club and qualifies under the following age requirements: 
  • 12-13 Age Division: Must have reached 12th birthday, but not 14th birthday, on or before July 21, 2026.
  • 9-11 Age Division: Must have reached 9th birthday, but not 12th birthday, on or before July 21, 2026.
  • 6-8 Age Division (9-Holes): Must have reached 6th birthday, but not 9th birthday, on or before July 21, 2026.

  • Male Championship Yardage (Brook/Windmill): 9-13 Age Divisions: 5,431 yards, 6-8 Age Division: 3,237 yards 
  • Male Course/Slope Rating (Brook/Windmill): 9-13 Age Division: 65.7 / 112, 6-8 Age Division: 56.7 / 90 
  • Female Championship Yardage (Brook/Windmill): 9-13 Age Divisions: 4,800 yards, 6-8 Age Division: 3,237 yards 
  • Female Course/Slope Rating (Brook/Windmill): 9-13 Age Division: 67.9 / 118, 6-8 Age Division: 58.2 / 98

Championship Format
  • 36 holes (18-holes each day) of gross individual stroke play for players aged 9-13.
  • 18 holes (9-holes each day) for players aged 6-8.
  • The lowest score for 36 holes in the Overall Division (9-11 and 12-13 Age Divisions) will be the Overall Champion.
  • In the event of a tie for the overall Championship only, a hole-by-hole playoff will be held immediately following play. The playoff holes and their order of play will be determined by the Committee.
  • Any other ties in all other divisions will be resolved by matching scorecards according to the USGA recommendation within the Committee Procedures of the Rules of Golf – “Matching Scorecards” (5A(6)d).
  • Initial groupings will be for Round 1. Players will be re-paired by score for the Final Round.

Monday, July 20
All Day: Practice rounds. 8:00 am-2:00 pm
Player Registration in the Clubhouse in the Dining Room

Tuesday, July 21
Round One: 7:30 a.m. tee times off of #1 & #10 tees.
Field re-grouped according to score.
Player registration at scoring after rounds. 

Wednesday, July 22
Round Two: 7:30 a.m. tee times off of #1 & #10 tees.
Awards Ceremony immediately following play.

Prizes & Awards

Awards will be presented as follows: 
  • Top 3 in Male Overall Championship
  • Top 3 in Male Age Divisions: 6-8, 9-11, 12-13 Age Divisions
  • Top 3 in Female Overall Championship
  • Top 3 in Female Age Divisions: 6-8, 9-11, 12-13 Age Divisions

Exemptions Earned
  • Overall Champions (Male & Female) receive exemption into Alabama State Junior Championships for remainder of eligibility.

The 7th Alabama State 13 & Under Championship is conducted by the Alabama Golf Association.  


About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

AGA membership consists of 125 member clubs represented by over 33,500 individuals. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
