FORT PAYNE, AL (August 7, 2025) – Round One results of the Alabama Golf Association’s 24th Alabama State Match Play and 5th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships hosted by Terrapin Hills Country Club in Fort Payne, Alabama, from August 7-10.

Andrew Hinson of Huntsville and Hunter Hawkins of Fort Payne sit tied for first after round one of stroke play qualifying for the 24th Alabama State Match Play Championship with a score of five-under par 65. 

The following players sit T3 after round one with scores of four-under par 66:
  • William Stelt of Auburn
  • Jace Duckworth of Tuscaloosa
  • Blaise Wilson of Cullman 
  • Richard Douglas of Birmingham 
Within the 5th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championship, Ty Cole of Albertville sits in first with an even-par score of 70.

Defending Champion Chris Hummel of Birmingham, Thomas Jean of Sumiton, and David Cooke of Vestavia Hills stand T2 each posting first round stroke play qualifying scores of two-over par 72. 

Round Two of stroke play qualifying for the 24th Alabama State Match Play and 5th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships will begin on Friday, August 8, at 8:30 a.m. off #1 and #10 tees. 

36 holes of gross individual stroke play determine the seeding of 16 players for match play in each Championship.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of 120 member clubs represented by over 30,000 individuals. Additionally, the Alabama Golf Foundation supports the Youth on Course Alabama program providing facility access to junior golfers and provides funding for the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation. In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
