Stroke Play Qualifying Results at the 24th Alabama State Match Play and 5th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships

FORT PAYNE, AL (August 8, 2025) – Stroke play qualifying results of the Alabama Golf Association’s 24th State Match Play and 5th State Senior Match Play Championships hosted by Terrapin Hills Country Club in Fort Payne Alabama, from August 7-10.

Andrew Hinson of Huntsville earned medalist honors at the 24th Alabama State Match Play Championship. Hinson fired an impressive 11-under 129 for the 36-hole stroke play qualifier to lead the Championship into match play format as the No.1 seed. 

Will McCurdy of Auburn finished second, posting a seven-under 133 for the stroke play qualifying rounds and will enter match play as the No.2 seed. Jace Duckworth of Auburn finished third, posting six-under 134.

The cut to the low 16 players fell at one-over 141 within the Alabama State Match Play Championship. 

Ty Cole of Albertville earned medalist honors at the 5th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championship with an overall score of two-under 138 for the stroke play qualifying rounds to claim the No.1 seed in match play.

David Cooke of Vestavia Hills finished second, carding an overall score of one-under 139 for the stroke play qualifying rounds. 

Thomas Jean of Sumiton finished third, each posting an overall score of one-over 141 for the stroke play qualifying rounds.

The cut to the low 16 players fell at 17-over 158 within the Alabama State Senior Match Play Championship.

Match Play (Round of 16) for the 24th Alabama State Match Play and 5th Alabama State Senior Match Play Championships will begin on Saturday, August 9, at 7:30 a.m. off #1 tee with the Quarterfinals matches set to begin at the completion of the Round of 16.

In 2016, the AGA earned the Gold Tee Award for “Outstanding Tournament Operations – Small Association” by the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA).

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the historic Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
