Day One Results of the 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match

POINT CLEAR, AL (July 24, 2022) – Day one results of the 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match, hosted by Lakewood Golf Club, in Point Clear, AL, on July 24-25, 2022. The event highlights 12-woman teams representing Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Each team consists of eight amateurs and four senior amateurs (age 50+) selected by their respective state golf association.

Georgia holds a three-point lead after day one of the 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match. Florida heads into the final day with 9.50 points and Alabama with 5.00 points. 
 
A.M. Four-Ball Matches – Round One
Six points were available in the morning session of Four-Ball Matches, with three AL vs. FL matches, 3 AL vs. GA matches and 3 FL vs. GA matches. Both Team Georgia and Team Florida earned four points each.
 
Play was suspended at 9:54 a.m. due to lightning in the area. Play resumed at 1:40 p.m.
 
Team Alabama secured three points. Theresa Mahlik and Amanda Miller defeated Florida opponents 2 &1 to earn one point; Emma Pittman and Zoe Walker defeated Florida opponents 2 up, earning another point. Lea Green and Donna Lowen earned one point by defeating Georgia opponents 4 & 2.
 
Standings following Four-Ball Matches:
●       Georgia – 5.00
●       Alabama – 3.00
●       Florida – 1.00
 
P.M. Three-Ball Foursomes Matches – Round Two
18 points were available in the afternoon session for Three-Ball Foursomes Matches. Each group consisted of six players, two per team, playing true alternate-shot format. Foursomes competed in a three-ball match: AL vs. FL, FL vs. GA and GA vs. AL. Due to the four-hour weather delay, the 18-hole format was shortened to nine holes.
 
Team Alabama secured two additional points in Foursomes Matches.
 
Donna Lowen and Lea Green finished with a victory over Florida opponents, 1 up. 
 
Theresa Mahlik and Amanda Miller halved the match against Georgia. Ashley-Sinclair Curtis and Taylor Trible also halved their match against Georgia.
 
Standings following Three-Ball Foursomes Matches:
●       Georgia – 7.50
●       Florida – 8.50
●       Alabama – 2.00
 
Day One Results:
●       Georgia – 12.50 
●       Florida – 9.50
●       Alabama –5.00
 
Three-Ball Singles Matches will begin tomorrow morning, Monday, July 25, 2022, at 7:30 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony upon completion of play.
