Georgia Claims Victory at the 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match

2022 Team Alabama at the 5th Women's Southeastern Challenge Match, hosted by Lakewood Golf Club in Point Clear, Alabama

POINT CLEAR, AL (July 25, 2022) – Final results of the 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match, hosted by Lakewood Golf Club, in Point Clear, AL, on July 24-25, 2022. The event highlights 12-woman teams representing Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Each team consists of eight amateurs and four senior amateurs (age 50+) selected by their respective state golf association.

Team Georgia wins the 5th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match with 26.50 points. Team Florida earned second with 20.50 points. After a strong fight, Team Alabama finished third with 16.00 points.
 
Claiming victory, Team Georgia breaks the tie in the overall series with three victories. Team Florida holds two titles and Team Alabama has none to date.
 
Three-Ball Singles Matches – Round Three
The most points were available within round three. There were 36 total points available, while 24 total points were the maximum number of points any state could earn. 
 
Team Alabama secured 11 points in the Three-Ball Singles Matches. 
 
Lea Green earned two points. She defeated her Florida opponent, winning 2 up, and her Georgia opponent, winning 1 up.
 
Donna Lowen also secured two points for Team Alabama, defeating both her Florida and Georgia opponents 4 & 2.
 
Lauren Thompson defeated her Florida opponent 6 & 5 and her Georgia opponent 2 & 1, another two points for Team Alabama.
 
Theresa Mahlik and Ally Williams both defeated their Florida opponents, each earning one point for Team Alabama. Mahlik defeated her opponent 3 & 2; Williams defeated her opponent 2 & 1.
 
Ashley-Sinclair Curtis defeated her Georgia opponent 3 & 2 to earn one point. She halved her match against Florida to secure a half point.
 
Amanda Miller, Zoe Walker, and Emma Pittman all halved their matches against Georgia to earn a half point each for Team Alabama.
 
Final Results:
●       Florida – 26.50 
●       Georgia – 20.50
●       Alabama – 16.00
 
The 6th Women’s Southeastern Challenge Matches will be contested in October of 2024, with Florida hosting.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)
