Micheala Williams Extends Lead to Seven Strokes
BIRMINGHAM, AL - Second round results of the 53rd Alabama Girls State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Bent Brook Golf Club in Birmingham, AL on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 (16-18 & 14-15 Age Divisions: 5827 yards, par 36-36—72, 72.1/123; 12-13 Age Division: 5433 yards, par 36-36—72, 69.9/119; 9-11 Age Division (9 Holes) 2435 yards par, 36).
Seeking her first AGA individual title, Michaela Williams of Athens, fired a bogey-free seven-under 65 to stand at 11-under par (133) and extended her lead to seven strokes heading into tomorrow’s final round. Her closest chaser is 2015 defending champion Michaela Morard of Huntsville, who carded a three-under 69 (140 total).
There are four age divisions in the Girls State Junior: 14-15 & 16-18 (championship tees), 12-13 & 9-11 (shorter tees). The overall champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score from either the 14-15 or 16-18 Age Divisions. Individual age division champions will be those players who post the lowest 54-hole total within their age division. All age divisions will play 18 holes daily, with the exception of the 9-11 that will play 9 holes daily. Champion will have her name engraved on the Bee McWane Trophy.
Alabama Girls State Junior Championship is open to any female amateur golfer who is between 9 to 18-years-old not yet in college, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.
