Alabama State Senior Amateur Round Two Results

HOLE-BY-HOLE SCORING

HOOVER, AL – Completed second round results of the 20th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Hoover Country Club in Hoover, AL on Sunday, May 21, 2017 (Ages 50-64: 6563 yards, par 36-36—72, 71.4/132; Ages 65+ (Super Senior): 5764 yards, par 36-36—72, 67.8/126).

Following an overnight weather delay with 56 players needing to finish play, the second round of the 20th Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship was completed Sunday morning.

In the overall championship, David Head of Sterrett who carded a 75 to finish at one-under 143 holds a one stroke lead over Robert Nelson of Fairhope.

In the 65+ Super Senior Division, John Gibbs of Oneonta posted a second round 69 to stand at seven-under 137 and hold a five shot lead over Wayne Gardner of Mobile and Peter Richards of Birmingham.

The field was cut to the low 48 scores and ties in the Overall Championship Division (Ages 50-64) and the low 12 scores and ties in the 65+ (Super Senior Division) for the final round. The cut line fell at 159 (+15) for the Overall Championship and 153 (+9) for the 65+ Super Senior Division.

The third round utilized a 12:00pm shotgun start. Final results will be posted at completion of today’s play.

Alabama State Senior Amateur Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 50th birthday by May 19, 2017, is a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club that does not exceed 10.4 (ages 50-64) and 15.4 (age 65+).

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.

Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
