MONTGOMERY, AL (June 23, 2017) – Final results of the 85^th Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, AL on Friday, June 23, 2017 (Championship Division=6006 yards, par 35-35—70, 75.7/137; Tournament Division=5466 yards, par 35-35—70, 72.3/130; Senior Division=5147 yards, par 35-35—70, 71.0/126).

Tropical Storm Cindy was the winner for the first two days of the 85^th Alabama Women’s Amateur Championship. However clearer skies on Friday allowed for all competitors to complete the stroke play qualifying round that had begun Wednesday morning.

Upon completion of qualifying, the field was divided into flights within their division based upon qualifying score. Facing limited amount of daylight and multiple rounds of match play to complete, various stipulated round formats was implemented consisting of six hole, nine hole and 18 hole matches.

After surviving three rounds of six hole matches, defending champion Elaine Wood of Spanish Fort faced Michaela Williams of Athens in the 18 hole championship match. Wood holed a six foot birdie putt on the 18^th hole to defeat Williams, 1 up, to win her second consecutive Alabama Women’s Amateur Championship title and third in last four years.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education.
