Elaine Wood Takes the Lead after Two Rounds of the Championship

TUSCALOOSA, AL - Second round results of the 27th Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, AL on Wednesday, July 13, 2017 (Championship Division: 6099 yards, par 36-35—71, 75.7/136; Tournament Division: 5257 yards, par 36-35—71, 71.0/126; Senior Division: 4944 yards, par 36-35—71, 69.2/123).

Elaine Wood of Spanish Fort fired a two-under par 69 (143) to move into the lead by one shot over Cammie Gray of Northport. Gray, a two-time champion, posted a one-over par 72 (144).

Defending champion Michaela Morard of Huntsville carded an even par 71 (149) and is six shots behind the lead. Micheala Williams of Athens posted a 75 and tied with Morard for third place.

The overall champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score from the Championship Division. Tournament and Senior divisions play a shorter course and ineligible for the overall championship. 

Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship is open to any female amateur golfer, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA)

The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service.

AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. Since 1980, the AGA has managed the affairs of the Southern Golf Association which includes conducting the Southern Amateur Championship and Southern Junior Championship, in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the Southern Golf Association.
