TUSCALOOSA, AL - Final round results of the 27th Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, AL on Friday, July 14, 2017 (Championship Division: 6099 yards, par 36-35—71, 75.7/136; Tournament Division: 5257 yards, par 36-35—71, 71.0/126; Senior Division: 4944 yards, par 36-35—71, 69.2/123).

Cammie Gray of Northport made a par on the first playoff hole to defeat Elaine Wood of Spanish Fort and win her third Alabama Women’s Stroke Play Championship. Gray won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. Gray (74) and Wood (75) both finished at 218 and went immediately into sudden death play-off on the 18th hole.

In the playoff, Gray led off with a perfect drive in the middle of the fairway. Meanwhile Wood’s tee shot ricocheted off trees to remain in play. Facing a tough approach, Wood had to play short and right of the 18th green. Gray played her second shot to the middle of the green leaving a 25-foot birdie putt. Wood wedged her third shot to 15 feet. Wood missed her par putt while Gray two-putted for the victory.

Defending champion Michaela Morard of Huntsville carded a one-under 70 and placed third with 219. Micheala Williams of Athens posted a 72 to finish in fourth at 221.

The overall champion is the player who posts the lowest 54-hole score from the Championship Division. Tournament and Senior divisions play a shorter course and ineligible for the overall championship.
