Padraic Sim of Spanish Fort - 2017 Alabama Boys State Junior Champion
SCOTTSBORO, AL - Final round results of the 72nd Alabama Boys State Junior Championship of the Alabama Golf Association hosted by Goose Pond Colony Resort (Lake Course) in Scottsboro, AL on Thursday, July 27, 2017 (14-18 Division: 6739 yards, par 36-36--72, 71.6/125; 12-13 Division: 5637 yards, par 36-35--71; 67.1/115; 9-11 Division (9 Holes): 5114 yards, par 36-35--71; 65.6/112).
Padraic Sim of Spanish Fort fired a final round eight-under 64 to win the 72nd Alabama Boys State Junior Championship title by two strokes over J.P. Cave of Mobile. Sim, a University of Washington commit, birdied the final two holes to finish the championship at 202 (-14). Cave also carded a 64 in the final round.
Sim’s victory secured the final boys spot on the Alabama Southern Junior Cup team that will face the top juniors from Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri next week in Oxford, MS. Joining Sim on the Alabama squad are runner-up J.P. Cave, Ethan Hagood of Hoover (3rd – 205), Austin Coggin of Vestavia Hills (T4 – 206), 2016 Boys State Junior champion John Racciatti Jr. of Fairhope (T19 - 211) and Connor Newton of Auburn (T25 – 213).
In the 12-13 Age Division, Charles Warren of Huntsville finished at 217 (+1) for a four shot victory over Alex Roberts of Birmingham.
Christopher Yeilding of Birmingham finished with a 27-hole total of 112 (+4) to win the 9-11 Age Division.
The overall champion is the player who posted the lowest 54-hole score from the 14-18 Division. Players in the 12-13 and 9-11 age divisions play all three days without a cut on a shorter course and ineligible for the overall championship.
The Alabama Boys State Junior Championship is open to any male amateur golfer 18-years-old and under, a legal resident of Alabama, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) and has an active GHIN® USGA Handicap Index® at an AGA member club.

About the Alabama Golf Association (AGA) The Alabama Golf Association is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational organization founded in 1915 whose mission is to serve and promote amateur golf in Alabama. AGA membership consists of over 130 member clubs represented by nearly 18,500 individuals. The activities and services of the Alabama Golf Association are governed by a Board of Directors consisting of Alabama golfers who wish to serve the game and the association through service. AGA is the USGA's liaison for golf in Alabama conducting national championship qualifying, administering the USGA Handicap system including the GHIN Handicap service, course & slope rating and education. The AGA annually conducts 12 championships and team match competitions for men, women, juniors, and seniors. The AGA also conducts Alabama high school golf championships and assists with many collegiate events including the SEC Men's Golf Championship. In addition to competitions, the AGA administers the AGA Women's Scholarship Fund that is dedicated to assisting young female golfers in higher education and supports the Alabama Turfgrass Research Foundation.
